Barbara Belew
Barbara Belew is an associate professor at McNeese State University. She teaches piano, harp and keyboard literature and coaches harp ensemble. Belew holds the Bachelor of Music degree, Summa Cum Laude, from Hardin-Simmons University (Abilene, Texas) and the Master of Music degree from Indiana University.
Her principal teacher included pianists Mattilene Belew, Dr. E. Edwin Young and Sidney Foster, and harpist Margaret White. Ms. Belew also has had additional study and course work at several other institutions.
An active performer in several area orchestras and as a free-lance harp soloist and chamber musician, she is the founder and current vice-president of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Harp Society and a former National Board of Directors member.
A Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through the Music Teachers National Association, and recording secretary of the Lake Charles Piano Teachers Association (affiliated with LMTA and MTNA), she also is a charter member and chapter advisor of Delta Chi Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, International Professional Music Fraternity.
Ms. Belew also is a veteran member of Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for women educators and has served the Alpha Gamma Chapter in several offices.
